Before Microsoft was Microsoft Corporation they were known as Microsoft Incorporated. This extremely rare 8-inch floppy disk version of Microsoft FORTRAN-80 for CP/M 80 has Microsoft's second logo style -- the style just before the more common "blibbet" logo, and the earliest Microsoft logo I have found on a product to date. It also has Microsoft's pre-Redmond, WA address.

The 3-ring binder, documentation, and the floppy media are in near-perfect condition. The binder pages are mostly typewritten and have no binder tears, wrinkles or handwriting. The version number on the 8" floppy disk is hand stamped. The documentation is actually dated 1979 on the title page.

This software package is nearly impossible to find today in this near-mint condition. Its historical value makes it worthy of museum display.

Microsoft Multiplan 1.06 for the Commodore 64

Microsoft released only two software titles for Commodore computers -- their BASIC interpreter and their first spreadsheet program, Multiplan. The 165K 5¼" floppy disk is still fully readable and runs in Commodore 64 systems. The manual pages for the 3-ring binder are still sealed in their original shrinkwrap. The registration card is unused. What looks like wear on the lower portion of the floppy disk label is actually the aged decal glue which has soaked through the layers of the label.

A software company called Human Engineered Software, or HesWare, secured marketing rights for Microsoft's Commodore 64 version of Multiplan and this is why the HesWare logo is on every item in the package. The software package originally retailed for US$99.95.

This software package is nearly impossible to find in its entirety today. Its historical value makes it worthy of museum display.

This title contains two copy-protected 3½" 400K media disks and a serial cable.

This package contains the following manuals still in their original shrinkwrap:
- Developer's Handbook, part no. 030-1084-A
- Macintosh 68000 Development System User's Manual, part no. 030-1077-A
- M68000 16/32-Bit Microprocessor Programmer's Reference Manual Fourth Edition (by Motorola), ISBN 0-13-566795-X

This is Apple's first version of assembly programming language for Motorola 68000 systems. An extremely rare first version, it includes a manual by Motorola that is nearly impossible to find still in its original shrinkwrap. All three manuals are in mint condition with no defects whatsoever. Both 400K media are still readable and this can still be installed on classic Macintosh systems. A very valuable and historic item, it is worthy of museum display.

This software title was donated to Dan's 20th Century Abandonware by Stephen H. from Virginia, USA. Thank you, Stephen!

Extra! Rare supplemental manual for Macintosh 68000 Development System.
I have also acquired an extremely rare copy of the 7/29/84 Macintosh Software Supplement to the Macintosh 68000 Development System. This manual supplement was released to software developers before the release of the Macintosh 68000 Development System software. The supplement was released as non-bound 8½"x11" pages in a 3-ring binder. Take a look!

I found this very rare software title at a local thrift store in 2004.

"Integrate the new generation of Windows applications and existing DOS applications with Microsoft Windows. It's the one graphical environment that gives you a standard path to OS/2, the operating system of the future."
-- Quote from back of package

Windows 2.0 is very hard to find these days. Especially on its original media. Even more so in a full box set. And much more rare still in a full box set still in its original shrinkwrap.

I acquired this rare software "artifact" by doing some consulting work for retrosoftware.net in 2004. They were kind to "pay" me by sending some of their "retro" software as "payment." This title was a part of that "payment."

Thank you, retrosoftware!

Microsoft Word Network Version 4.0

In addition to their standalone DOS versions of Microsoft Word, Microsoft released network server-based versions of their word processor software. This rare network version of Microsoft Word is a complete box set still in its original shrinkwrap and in excellent condition.

This box set has two promotion stickers promoting a US$995 savings on the purchase of a bundle set of network versions of Microsoft Word and ForComment, a "review processor" for making comments and revision suggestions on word processor documents.

Dan's 20th Century Abandonware just happens to have a full box set of the first version of ForComment that supports Microsoft Word for DOS, ForComment 1.16 (image 6). This version of ForComment has a sticker on the outside box cover sleeve that says, "NOW SUPPORTS MICROSOFT WORD."

Microsoft Word Network Version 4.0 was donated to Dan's 20th Century Abandonware by Stephen H. from Virginia, USA.
Thank you, Stephen!

Lexicon 1.2 Russian/English Versions

Lexicon 1.2  Russian/English Versions
Copyright © 1990 Microinform

This is a rare Russian text editor, Lexicon, made by the Russian software company Microinform. All the manuals have a plain white sheet of paper stapled to the outside of the manuals, acting as a protective cover, except for the main User Guide which has a piece of paper wrapped around it to protect its cover. This is a unique trait as I have not found this protective paper covering manuals in software packages from software companies based in American, Canada, or other countries. The 5¼" floppy disks were sealed in a cardboard box.

All of the manuals, inserts, license agreement, floppy disk labels, etc. are printed in Russian. The only English is printed on the opposite long side of the box and on the Microinform logo.

This software title was donated to Dan's 20th Century Abandonware by Stephen H. from Virginia, USA. Thank you, Stephen!

Windows 3.0

Microsoft Windows 3.0

Very rarely these days do you find a complete box set of Windows 3.0. More rare still do you find a box set of Windows 3.0 in its factory shrinkwrap. And how often do you find two box sets of Windows 3.0 with different media formats, both in mint condition and both in their factory shrinkwrap?

Truthfully? I didn't find either of these box sets. They found their way to me through the generosity of two different people who donated their individual box sets of Windows 3.0 to Dan's 20th Century Abandonware.

The 5¼" media package was donated by a generous person from FL, USA. The 3½" media package was donated by Mike S. from IL, USA.  Thank you both!

An interesting feature about these two packages is the 3½" media package of Windows 3.0 is thicker than the 5¼" package.

Lotus 1-2-3 for OS/2 Release 1.1
Copyright © 1991 Lotus Development Corporation

At first glance of running Lotus 1-2-3 for OS/2 on OS/2 1.20, one would think this was a Windows 3.1 program because OS/2 1.20 uses the same graphical look and feel as Microsoft Windows 3.1x. But this is a rare OS/2 release that will only run on OS/2. This version was released on 5¼" 1.2MB and 3½" 720K floppy disks. The 5¼" floppy disks are still in their original shrinkwrap. This is a full box set of Lotus 1-2-3 for OS/2 Release 1.1.

Disk 1 is copy-protected and cannot be duplicated without the aid of a disk duplication program capable of overriding the copy protection scheme.

While the minimum system requirements call for a 80386 processor, I have run Lotus 1-2-3 for OS/2 Release 1.1 on a 286 PC because OS/2 1.20 will only run on a 286 CPU.

This software title was donated to Dan's 20th Century Abandonware by Stephen H. from Virginia, USA. Thank you, Stephen!

WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS Russian Edition

While there are many English copies of WordPerfect for DOS still in use worldwide, you don't see too many Russian editions these days. A full box set is even rarer still.

Nearly every aspect of this version of WordPerfect is written in Russian: the setup program and word processor software, the manuals, license certificate, registration card, floppy disk labels, keyboard templates, and advertising inserts. The only English words are the titles on opposite sides of the lid of the box and on the inner box housing the media, license, etc.

The barcode label was slightly beat up -- not by KGB agents -- but because it is on the bottom of the box.

This software title was donated to Dan's 20th Century Abandonware by Stephen H. from Virginia, USA. Thank you, Stephen!

This rare Corel release of CorelDRAW! for OS/2 has the same interface as earlier Windows 2.x versions. It also includes a VHS videocassette titled "CorelDRAW! 2.0 A First Look..." (even though this is version 2.5). I was fortunate to have this full box set donated to Dan's 20th Century Abandonware.

Showing an American astronaut on the Moon, C Set ++ FirstStep gives you the tools to make "one giant leap" after another programming in OS/2 2.x. 32-bit object-oriented (OO) C and C++ languages, FirstStep uses a project-oriented approach by including an integrated development environment (IDE) called IBM WorkFrame/2 1.1. This is a very rare and extremely hard to find full box set of C Set ++ FirstStep with the software released on CD-ROM and 3½" 1.44MB floppy disks. This software package's contents are in near-mint condition. The box has some slight wear.

Footprint Works 1.00 for OS/2
Copyright © 1993 Footprint Software, Inc.

A rare integrated word processor/spreadsheet/database/charting/report writing suite, this is the first version of Footprint Works released by Footprint Software, Inc. I was fortunate to find a full box set of this title.

While the floppy labels appear to be worn, I purchased this package originally still in its factory shrinkwrap. The floppy disks have only been read once -- to make disk images for archiving. The program was tested by writing the disk images to a backup set of floppies. What looks like wear on the labels (image 4) is actually the decal glue soaking through the layers of the disk label.

Footprint Software, Inc. is also the same software company that developed the IBM Works integrated suite which was included in the Bonus Pack of OS/2 Warp.

Corel Office 7 Professional for Windows 95
Copyright © 1996 Corel Corporation

This was Corel's first 32-bit "professional" suite released after acquiring most of the former WordPerfect Corporation and Borland International software Novell acquired from these software companies in 1994. This "office" suite contains all the programs and features thought necessary to be the most comprehensive single offering of the day, and contains many more programs, fonts, images, etc. than Corel's WordPerfect Suite 7, which was considered to be a "standard" version office suite.

This box set is still sealed in its original shrinkwrap and is in premium mint condition. It is very hard to find one of these versions in this condition today.

Microsoft Windows NT 3.1, 3.5, and 3.51 did not have disk defragment utilities included with the operating system. Diskeeper 1.03 is the first version of Executive Software International's disk defragmentation software. This version only runs on Windows NT Workstation 3.51. This rare first version of Diskeeper for Windows NT Workstation is very hard to find today.

Corel WordPerfect Suite 6.2 for DOS

In 1997, Corel Corporation released the last DOS versions of WordPerfect, Quattro Pro, and Presentations and created the first -- and only -- commercial DOS "office suite." Nearly impossible to find today, this box set is in excellent condition. The software was released on both CD-ROM and 3½" 1.44MB floppy disks. The floppy disks are still sealed in their original shrinkwrap.

A generous businessman contacted me in 2004, saying he was "going through his work closet" and was cleaning out his "old" software. He was just going to throw this package away, then discovered Dan's 20th Century Abandonware. He asked me if I would like to have this box set of Corel WordPerfect Suite for DOS. I said yes (of course!) and the kind businessman donated this extremely rare software package to Dan's 20th Century Abandonware.   Thank you!
